This gorgeous antique ring is crafted from rich 18ct yellow gold with beautiful scroll work.  The white stones are old cut diamonds and the pinky-red gemstones are synthetic rubies, which is authentic to the period. 

The scientific discovery of how to make man-made corundum (ruby or sapphire) with the same properties as the natural gemstone, was seen as a positive in this period, as jewellers could offer their customers gemstones with excellent colour and clarity. 

The diamonds are antique Old Brilliant Cut Diamonds, originally mined and cut pre-1930.  Old Cuts have slightly different proportions to the modern brilliant cut, with a deeper crown and flat cullet.  It would have been shaped and faceted without the modern technology the diamond industry relies on today, making an old cut diamond something to admire.

The ring has a lovely clear Birmingham hallmark, and the style of the ring would indicate it to be around 1890's - 1920.  The ring is in excellent condition for its antique age.  The ring has been professionally cleaned and polished and fully checked and tested so you can buy with confidence.

The head of the ring measures 17mm x 8mm and measures 3mm at the back of the hoop.
