Combining Heritage, Innovation and Sustainable Design
The Story of 886 The Royal Mint
Designed by Dominic Jones
Designed by Creative Director Dominic Jones, the 886 collection brings together modern form and meticulous craftsmanship. The clean, minimal aesthetic is achieved through complex production techniques, including highly polished surfaces and subtle undercuts that create the illusion of jewellery floating above the skin.
Several pieces feature discreet engravings and hidden details, continuing The Royal Mint’s tradition of incorporating secret messages into medal and coin design. These thoughtful touches are intended for the wearer alone, adding depth and meaning to each piece.
Sustainable Precious Metals
886 is the first luxury jewellery brand to be crafted using 100% recovered gold sourced from discarded electronic waste. In partnership with Canadian clean technology firm Excir, The Royal Mint recovers gold from laptops and mobile phones using a pioneering extraction process that recovers over 99% of the gold contained within used electronics.
This innovative approach supports a UK-based circular economy while providing a responsible and high-quality source of precious metal. Each piece in the 886 collection is available in solid 18ct gold, solid 9ct gold, solid Britannia silver and sterling silver, making refined design accessible without compromise.
Craftsmanship Inspired by Heritage
The 886 collection draws inspiration from The Royal Mint’s centuries-old heritage and the concept of wearable assets. Each design carries a visual marker of its precious metal gram weight, referencing the intrinsic value of the materials used.
Ancient medal-making techniques are combined with modern precision engineering to create jewellery that feels both timeless and contemporary. The debut collection includes designs that use caustics, a proprietary technique traditionally employed as a security feature, forming surfaces that sculpt light to reveal hidden imagery.
