Antique 18ct & Platinum Natural Burmese Ruby and Old Cut Diamond Brooch

This exquisite antique brooch is a true piece of heritage jewellery to be treasured.  The star of the show, is the central ruby, which has the most beautiful transparency and fuchsia red/pink colour.  

To be certain of its heritage, we have commissioned a gemmological report, which confirms our belief that this exceptional ruby, is of Myanmarese (Burmese) origin and has no evidence of any treatments to enhance its natural colour or clarity.  Measuring 7.5 x 6.4 x 4.27mm it has an estimated weight of 1.72ct and described as deep purplish red, slightly included.  Upon inspection the facets have some minor chips, but it is worth remembering the age of the brooch.

The brooch design, would indicate the late Victorian to Edwardian period, although the gemstones may have been taken from older jewellery and re-fashioned.  The antique old-cut diamonds were originally mined and cut pre-1930 would have been shaped and faceted without the modern technology the diamond industry relies on today, making an old cut diamond something to admire.

Measuring 62mm x 18mm, the brooch fastens with a sturdy pin, with a safety feature.  There is no hallmark on this piece which is expected for jewellery from this age, but there is an '18ct Plat' stamp, which confirms our tests.
