Pre-owned Antique 9ct Gold Old Cut Diamond Chick Brooch

This charming vintage brooch, is beautifully crafted from 9ct yellow gold, and adorned with antique rose cut diamonds.

The chick has a plump rounded body, which is pave set with diamonds.  These are an antique cut, known as a rose-cut, faceted to a top point, originally mined and cut pre-1930 a style which later evolved into the old mine cut and modern round brilliant cut.  Its eye is a cabochon red ruby, and the detailed work on his legs show the skill of the goldsmith who made this wonderful piece.

Measuring 30mm x 32mm, the brooch fastens with sturdy pin and has an additional safety chain.  There is no hallmark on this piece which is expected for jewellery from this age, but we have tested the gold and our team of goldsmiths and valuers agree that it is 9ct carat gold. It most probably dates from the late Victorian into the fist half of 20th century.
