At each of our independent Gold Arts retail stores, we have a dedicated onsite workshop. These workshops each have highly trained Goldsmiths who are capable of all manner of repairs. This ranges from simple ring sizing and chain repairs, to complete re-tipping or re-working of a ring and supplying and resetting gemstones. This means that all repairs are carried out on site giving you the peace of mind that they are secure and looked after.
In all our stores we do ring re-sizing and our staff will advise you on the best option for you and provide an accurate quote. There are many options when sizing a ring, for more details please click here.
There is no need to book an appointment to discuss your jewellery repair requirements, just come into your local store, where a member of staff will warmly greet you and advise on the best way to repair your items and the expected cost. You can also request to meet the Goldsmith in that store who will come and discuss your requirements. Your jewellery will be booked into our repair system and the expected completion time frame will be given. This can range from a couple of hours to a week or two, as it depends on how complicated the repair is. We will keep you informed of any changes in costs or time frame by either phone or email.
Rhodium Plating and Gilding
The popularity of White Gold has increased the demand for Rhodium Plating Services. Plating is a manufacturing process in which a thin layer of metal coats a substrate. With jewellery this is generally achieved through electroplating.
White Gold is not a naturally occurring metal, it is an alloy of natural yellow gold with other metals that have a whitening effect. For more information see Precious Metals – What’s the difference? Unlike platinum and silver, white gold doesn’t have a perfect white colour, and may have tinges of yellow, grey or brown. To create the bright white colour, it is an industry standard to Rhodium Plate white gold jewellery.
Rhodium (Rh) is in the same group of metals as platinum, and is used to mainly to plate white gold, and occasionally platinum and silver. It adds a brighter, silvery white colour to these metals. Rhodium’s properties are similar to platinum and gold in the way that it is nonreactive/ hypoallergenic, however the plating does wear off over time, and needs to be reapplied periodically. Depending on the type of jewellery and how it is worn, the plating will wear differently. If the piece is worn regularly it will need to be re-plated more often.
Gold Arts offers a rhodium plating service in all our workshops, to renew the brightness of your white gold jewellery. Professional cleaning and rhodium plating is an affordable onsite service which restores the beauty of your jewellery, with prices starting from £35 and often completed on the same day. Rhodium plating is included in the price of all workshop repairs to white gold as standard. If your jewellery is being re-plated on a very regular basis, we may advise a Hard Rhodium Plate, which is a service we outsource, which applies a much thicker coating.
We also offer Gilding and Gold plating services, applicable to yellow gold plated items of jewellery.
