Black opal or dark opal is highly prized, as the darker background provides the perfect contrast against the dazzling colours in this opal.
This wonderful example of a dark opal has a grey background, bursting with shades of red-pink, the occasional glint of amber with a further deep layer of electric green and violet. The opal is claw set within an art deco styled mount, enhanced with shimmering baguette cut white diamonds on each shoulder. Precious durable platinum gives strength and beauty to the ring with the natural white of the metal complementing the white diamonds.
The opal measures approximately 10mm x 6.5mm and the gem-set section measures 14mm width. The shank of the ring measures 2.8mm at the back. The ring is currently a size M.
