This unusual necklace, is crafted from 15ct yellow gold, from intricate rope chain, and set so that each chain hangs at a different length (18/20/22') to create the perfect layered look. We believe this necklace to be a bespoke item created from an antique guard chain. Longuard chains were popular Victorian and Edwardian period, to hold pocket watches, muffs or small accessories. The length is not so useful now-a-days, so a goldsmith has cleverly created a much more wearable piece. The necklace is not hallmarked, but the swivel clasp and one end of the chain are stamped 15ct, which is a purity of gold which stopped production in 1932.
